The United States has now undermined China’s ambition to dominate the telecom sector. After India banned 59 Chinese apps, the US Government has also banned two major telecom companies.
China, which has taken an aggressive expansionist stance, has been hit hard by the US after India. After India banned 59 apps of Chinese companies, the United States has also said that two big Chinese companies are a threat to the country’s security. Huawei Technology and ZTE Corp have been banned from doing business in the United States.
The US Federal Communications Commission said on Tuesday that these companies are “dangerous” to the country. The US government had also made an agreements with these companies. Under the agreement,, 8.4 billion worth of goods and equipment would be purchased. However, funding for this has been withheld. Both companies have not yet commented on the US decision. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission said telecom companies would have to remove both companies’ equipment from their infrastructure. The commission also said it would not take any risks with US security.
An order was issued by US President Donald Trump last year. The United States has said no telecommunications business will be conducted with companies that pose a threat to the country’s security. The US was already at loggerheads with Huawei. The company was also blacklisted by the United States.
Meanwhile, India on Monday shocked China by banning 59 Chinese apps. China is upset over this. China’s Government media has started threatening India, warning of an economic war against India. There were many complaints against apps banned by India. These apps were becoming a threat to the sovereignty, security and integrity of the country. China could tamper with Indians’ data through these apps, so the central government has banned these apps. The decision was later reported in the Chinese media. China’s official newspaper, the Global Times, said India’s decision was an attempt to get closer to the United States. The United States also began efforts to ban Chinese goods under the guise of nationalism. The decision will have an impact on India’s economy, Global Times reported.
So, taking a big decision against China, India decided to ban 59 Chinese apps (including popular TickTock, UC Browser etc). But China is not far behind. Indian e-papers and news websites have been shut down in China. Many users cannot read the news in India.
